The gaming platform Roblox continues to face issues in Russia. At the end of last year, it was officially blocked in the country, and now, nearly five months later, it has been fined.

Roblox fined in Russia for promoting a banned and extremist LGBT movement

According to a report by TASS, the Tagansky District Court in Moscow found Roblox guilty of promoting LGBT* and imposed two fines on it, each amounting to 4 million rubles. In its verdict, the court stated that Roblox distributes materials that portray non-traditional relationships in a positive light, which is prohibited in Russia.

Notably, Roskomnadzor cited the promotion of LGBT* as one of the reasons for blocking Roblox in the country, alongside the promotion of extremism and terrorism. It is likely that this led to the complaint being filed in court against the platform.

Roblox has not commented on the court's decision.

It should be noted that last week, the Tagansky District Court in Moscow also fined Electronic Arts. The company was ordered to pay 2 million rubles due to violations of personal data laws.

*The international LGBT movement is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia.
