Today, a user under the nickname ot60 wrote a post on Reddit about fraud that his wife, a developer, recently encountered.
According to the redditor, the attackers contacted her directly — they sent an email offer to work at Storm8. This letter, as well as the following one with a detailed description of duties and benefits, looked quite authentic. The only thing that could alert was the postal address (jobs@storm8.careers , instead of person@storm8.com ), but then neither the redditor nor his wife paid attention to him.
Before proceeding to the interview, the developer was asked to take a test, at the end of which it was necessary to buy a gift card on Steam for $ 50 and enter the data into the form. At this stage, it became clear that something was wrong with recruiters.
In the comments to the post, the editors suggested that ot60 contact the real Storm8 so that the studio would find out about the scammers.
Such cases are not uncommon in the industry. Previously, stories surfaced about false recruiters from Riot Games, Rockstar and other companies.
