At the end of February 2026, the studio Quantic Dream released the MOBA Spellcasters Chronicles in early access format. Three months have since passed, but the game has yet to attract a large audience.

In an official statement, Quantic Dream revealed that the metrics for Spellcasters Chronicles were insufficient to ensure the game's long-term future. They did not provide specific figures, but according to SteamDB data, the peak concurrent players amounted to just 888.

The servers for Spellcasters Chronicles will be shut down on June 19. Gamers who spent money in the game will be able to request refunds from Quantic Dream.

Quantic Dream has promised to reassign the MOBA developers to teams on other projects where possible, although they did not rule out that not everyone may find a new role. The exact number of people potentially facing job losses has not been specified. Nonetheless, Quantic Dream emphasized that this reorganization will not affect Star Wars Eclipse.

Previously, sources from Insider Gaming reported that if Spellcasters Chronicles failed, the studio might lose funding from its parent company, NetEase. How credible these rumors are will become clear in the near future.

UPDATED: As the French union STJV claims, a quarter of Quantic Dream's staff, roughly 95 people, are at risk of losing their jobs.
