The American company Pragma has announced receiving strategic investments. It has been allocated $12.75 million to develop its namesake BaaS (backend-as-a-service) platform, used in operating live service games.
Among Pragma's investors is Square Enix. Greylock Partners, Upfront Ventures, and Insight Partners also contributed funds. To date, the developers have attracted over $50 million in investments.
Pragma stated that the funds will be used to expand its toolset and potentially acquire other companies. The company reminded that at the end of February, it acquired the FirstLook.gg platform for game testing and hinted at possible further expansion.
Pragma was founded in 2019 by former lead engineer at Riot Games Chris Cobb and Fishermen Labs founder Eden Chen. Initially, the company consisted of just the two founders, but now it has several dozen employees.
The Pragma BaaS platform enables live service game developers to manage the backend of their projects. Specifically, it provides tools for player matchmaking systems, cross-platform support, social features, monetization, and much more.
Developers of "Predecessor" and "Stormgate" have used Pragma's services. Among its clients are studios such as People Can Fly, Radical Forge, Elodie Games, Lightforge Games, and Gardens Interactive.
