These observations were shared on social media by analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana.

He calculated that since the beginning of the year, only seven PlayStation console games have sold over 100,000 physical copies in U.S. retail. By the end of the week from July 5 to July 11, only two titles managed to reach at least 10,000 copies in disc sales. Piscatella did not disclose the games' names.
The analyst clarified that these figures cover the physical editions of all PlayStation games — both from Sony's internal studios and third-party developers. Additionally, they pertain to both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
Piscatella released this data three weeks after Sony announced plans to cease disc production for its consoles. The analyst added that while he doesn't support the corporation's decision, he understands why it was made. Piscatella also understands the gamers who are actively expressing dissatisfaction online, but doubts that protests will change anything.
"Commenting is cool, speak up and all of that. But comments alone won't accomplish much," wrote Piscatella.
Earlier, Piscatella reported that for the 12 months ending in May 2026, revenue from physical game editions in the U.S. (not just for PlayStation, but other consoles too) amounted to $1.6 billion. This is 3% more than the same period a year earlier, and previously, revenue had been declining for 17 years. However, the analyst believes this growth is temporary, and a decline will follow.
