The sum of $225 million is listed in the LinkedIn profile of Sam Saliba, former vice president of marketing for the Overwatch franchise. His profile also says that at one point Overwatch 2 was actively played by more than 50 million people.
According to Saliba, the Overwatch 2 team managed to significantly exceed the plan — the key indicators of the game turned out to be 130% higher than expected.
It is not known for sure when the revenue and audience of Overwatch 2 reached these levels. But note that Saliba left Activision Blizzard at the end of March 2023, six months after the release of Overwatch 2.
Activision Blizzard did not officially disclose the income of the second Overwatch. However, in the financial report for October-December 2022, she reported that the net proceeds of the Overwatch franchise for the quarter exceeded $100 million. Considering that the release of Overwatch 2 took place on October 4, it can be argued that almost the entire amount fell on it.
In November 2022, Activision Blizzard reported that 35 million people played Overwatch 2 in the first month.
