The petition SaveMassEffect on the Change.org platform has gathered more than 200,000 signatures in five days. Its authors are urging Electronic Arts to continue the Mass Effect series, despite the closure of BioWare and the cancellation of the next franchise game.
The petition appeared on October 21st, the day EA announced the closure of BioWare. Its author, Joe Smith, offers the company two options: resume the development of Mass Effect by allocating necessary funds and staff or transfer the franchise license to another studio.
Notably, the initiative does not require the mandatory revival of BioWare. The main goal of its participants is to prevent the cessation of Mass Effect's development.
Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer, who voiced the female and male versions of Captain Shepard, have joined the campaign. Hale also suggested considering the possibility of reviving the franchise through joint funding from fans, investors, and a gaming studio.
Recall that on October 21st, EA announced the closure of BioWare, founded in 1995. Simultaneously, the company confirmed the cancellation of the next Mass Effect, which was in the early stages of development.
So far, EA has not disclosed any plans to resume work on the series or transfer the rights to it to third-party developers.
