On June 9, Destiny 2 received its final content update named Monument of Triumph. It attracted numerous gamers who wanted to bid farewell to the game and prove to Bungie that the series should not die.
Destiny 2
According to data from SteamDB, the online Steam version of Destiny 2 reached 167,867 players. Although it’s not a record, it's an impressive result. The game’s online presence last exceeded current numbers in June 2024 when the episode “Echo” was released. Furthermore, this figure is significantly higher than that of Marathon, which had a peak of 88,337 simultaneous players in its Steam version.
For comparison, on the evening before the launch of Monument of Triumph, Destiny 2's Steam active players were at 35,000, which was already three times higher than a month prior—before Bungie announced plans to cease content support for Destiny 2 to focus on Marathon.

The excitement surrounding the final update even led to server disruptions for the game at one point. Notably, this is precisely what some Destiny 2 fans were aiming for, hoping to attract Bungie's attention and convince the studio to greenlight Destiny 3.
Previously, the media reported that Bungie was considering a reboot of Destiny 2, but none of the options were deemed good enough. The studio abandoned the development of Destiny 3 due to the project's high cost. It is expected that Bungie will now undergo significant layoffs.
