On August 27, the indie sandbox adventure game in dungeons, Core Keeper, left Steam Early Access after two and a half years. According to SteamDB, the game reached a peak of 31,597 online players on Valve's platform on its release day.

Core Keeper

It's not a record, but it's close. Core Keeper had a higher player count only at the start of its Early Access in March 2022, when it attracted 34,508 concurrent users.

Interestingly, right before the release, Core Keeper had a free weekend, but even then, the online numbers were significantly lower. On August 25, Core Keeper had 18,554 concurrent players at its peak. Nevertheless, this is still one of the best results in the history of the game. It's also known that the event brought 200,000 new players to Core Keeper.

Core Keeper Online Dynamics on Steam

Fredrik Präntare, the founder of Pugstorm, the studio behind Core Keeper, admitted on X that he did not expect to see such a large online presence on the project's release day.

Core Keeper was successful long before the launch of version 1.0. In 2022, it sold 100,000 copies within the first two days of Early Access, and by the release day, its sales in Steam had exceeded 2 million copies.

Core Keeper is now available not only on Steam but also on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.
