Nintendo also reported its financial results for the past year — just like Sony, this period ran from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

Main Figures

  • Nintendo's net sales for the fiscal year reached 2.3 trillion yen (14.75 billion dollars), marking an impressive increase of 98.6%.
  • The company's net profit also saw significant growth — up 52.1% to 424 billion yen (2.7 billion dollars).

Console Business

  • Sales of the original Switch continued to decline. Over the year, Nintendo sold 3.8 million units of the console, which is 64.8% less year-over-year.
  • By March 31, 2026, Switch 2 had sold 19.86 million units, slightly above Nintendo's forecast.
  • However, at the start of 2026, demand for the Switch 2 waned. From January to March, the console sold "only" 2.49 million times — fewer than any previous quarter.
  • For the current fiscal year, Nintendo plans to sell an additional 2 million units of the original Switch and 16.5 million units of the Switch 2.
  • Nintendo announced a price increase for the Switch 2 "due to market conditions and considering global business growth prospects." In Japan, the console will become more expensive on May 25, while in Europe, the USA, and Canada — on September 1. Specifically, in Europe, the price will rise from 470 to 500 euros, and in the USA — from 450 to 500 dollars. Interestingly, earlier, Nintendo's investors had called for a price increase, considering the Switch 2 too cheap in today's market.

Games

  • Over the year, gamers worldwide purchased 48.71 million copies of games for the Switch 2 and 136.91 million (-11.9%) copies of games for the original Switch.
  • Sales of Pokémon Pokopia exceeded 4 million copies in five weeks. Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen reached the same mark, but in six weeks.
  • Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream sold 3.8 million copies within the first two weeks.
  • Mario Kart World remains the best-selling game on the Switch 2. By the end of March, it had sold 14.7 million copies. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to lead on the original Switch with 71.8 million copies.
