The Nintendo Switch has become the second best-selling console in the American market ever, reports analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana. Until recently, this title was held by the PlayStation 2.
According to Piscatella's calculations, Americans have purchased a total of 46.6 million Nintendo Switch consoles. He did not specify the sales figures for the PlayStation 2.
The bestselling console in the U.S. remains the Nintendo DS. In a comment to IGN, Piscatella stated that the Nintendo DS surpasses the Nintendo Switch in sales by over 7 million units in the American market, making it unlikely that its record will be beaten anytime soon.
Looking at the global scale, the Nintendo Switch still significantly lags behind the PlayStation 2 in total sales. Previously, Sony confirmed that over 160 million PlayStation 2 units have been sold worldwide. As of September 30, 2024, the Nintendo Switch had sold 146 million units.
