Officials aim to use this to protect children and young people from "destructive content" online.

"Devil's Service"

Members of the Moscow City Duma have already developed a preliminary draft of amendments to two laws: "On Information, Information Technologies, and Protection of Information" and "On Protecting Children from Information Harmful to Their Health and Development." They plan to finalize these amendments soon and then send them to the State Duma for consideration.

It should be noted that the draft amendments address the need to more strictly regulate the information available to children on the internet, both related to video games and otherwise. For instance, the deputies proposed allowing the blocking of content without a court order, specifically content that should have received an age rating but, for some reason, did not, or was incorrectly rated. According to their plan, special experts will verify the accuracy of the ratings.

This is not the first initiative in Russia concerning the rating of video games. Recall, at the end of 2024, a bill titled "On Activities Regarding the Development and Distribution of Video Games in the Russian Federation" was introduced in the State Duma. Among other measures, it calls for mandatory content ratings for games and the addition of user authentication for Russian gamers via phone numbers, through government services, or using biometrics. The document is currently at the first reading stage.
