The developers from NetherRealm Studios disclosed this number on the official X account for the fighting game.
Mortal Kombat 1
Over the past year, Mortal Kombat 1 has seen relatively good demand. Recall that in August 2025, NetherRealm Studios' Creative Director, Ed Boon, reported 6.2 million copies sold, meaning it took eight months to sell an additional 1.8 million copies.
It's likely that a series of sales helped Mortal Kombat 1 in this regard. The game began regularly selling at an 80% discount, which couldn't have failed to impact its performance positively.
Notably, in May of last year, NetherRealm Studios officially announced the end of content support for Mortal Kombat 1. Although the studio itself cited a desire to focus on developing their next game, speculations arose online suggesting that they (and their parent company, Warner Bros. Games) were dissatisfied with the fighting game's sales compared to previous installments in the series.
Mortal Kombat 1 was released on September 19, 2023, on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
