Meta Corporation* will undergo a significant restructuring within its Reality Labs division, which deals with the metaverse and virtual reality technologies. Among those affected will be gaming teams.
Marvel’s Deadpool VR
According to Bloomberg, due to the reshuffling at Meta*, three studios will soon close their doors:
- Twisted Pixel Games — developers of games such as The Maw, Splosion Man, Wilson’s Heart. Their latest release is Marvel’s Deadpool VR;
- Sanzaru Games — developers of the Asgard’s Wrath franchise;
- Armature Studio — developers of the VR version of Resident Evil 4, and previously worked on games like Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, ReCore, Dead Star, and Where the Heart Leads.
In total, Bloomberg reports that Meta* plans to lay off 10% of the staff from the Reality Labs teams as part of the restructuring. This amounts to approximately 1,500 people.
Representatives from Meta* confirmed Bloomberg's report. They stated that the corporation wants to redirect part of the funds allocated for developing the metaverse into the wearable devices segment, such as smart glasses and bracelets.
