As Kommersant found out, the closed meeting took place on Wednesday at a Russian Internet forum. 23 developers participated in it, and these were not top managers, but people directly involved in games. It is known that among them were employees of VK and Sbera.
According to the participants of the meeting, one of the key problems that the domestic industry is currently facing is restrictions on foreign playgrounds like the App Store, Google Play and Steam. It could be partially solved by entering the Chinese market, but for this, developers will need the help of the state.
For example, the authorities could help with the launch of a publisher specializing in China. But this may not be enough. To compete with Chinese companies, Russian developers will have to seriously improve the quality of their games.
Another problem is the risk of being left without access to the Unity and Unreal Engines, on which most teams in the country work. The creation of a Russian analogue can cost “billions of rubles” and take two to three years.
