The increased control by the authorities and the consequences of the pandemic have seriously affected Chinese tech giants, including Tencent. According to a number of media reports, large-scale cuts have begun in the company.
It is unclear exactly how many employees are being fired and from which departments.
For example, the publication Thepaper.cn It was reported that Tencent is cutting 100 employees only from the sports direction. While one of the sources of the Post noted that layoffs occur in different departments, and their scale varies from the profitability of the business (another source added that the biggest losses are incurred by the division associated with cloud computing and video).
Also back in March, Reuters wrote that by the end of the year Tencent and Alibaba are going to reduce “tens of thousands of people” in total.
Earlier, Tencent admitted that it plans to optimize the staff. But, according to her, at the end of 2022, the company will still employ more people than in 2021.
