The company has reduced the production plan for the Nintendo Switch 2 from 6 million to 4 million devices for the January-March 2026 quarter, reports Bloomberg.

According to the agency, Nintendo was anticipating higher console sales in the U.S. during last year’s winter holidays, a period when interest in games and gaming equipment traditionally rises. The situation was not helped by the memory market crisis, which led to increased production costs. However, Bloomberg emphasizes that primarily the insufficient sales in the American market forced Nintendo to slow down.

Nevertheless, Bloomberg writes, the recent successful release of Pokémon Pokopia encouraged Americans to start actively buying the Nintendo Switch 2 again. Despite this, Nintendo is in no rush to return to its previous production pace as the company wants to first ensure that the demand for the game and subsequent releases will be stable. Moreover, it is expected that in April, the company will also produce fewer Nintendo Switch 2 units than originally planned.

Nintendo did not comment on Bloomberg's information.

Earlier, Nintendo reported that as of December 31, 2025, global sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 had reached 17.37 million units. According to its reports, the company also hopes to sell at least 19 million Nintendo Switch 2 units by the end of March.
