In 2023, the Saudi company Sandsoft announced its grand ambitions — it aimed to become, within five years, a major publisher capable of competing with giants like Tencent, Electronic Arts, and Activision Blizzard. However, it seems that their plan has failed.

As reported by the MobileGamer portal citing sources, Sandsoft has ceased operations. The decision to shut it down was reportedly made by the publisher’s parent company, Ajlan & Bros Holding Group.

The reason behind Sandsoft's closure is unknown.

The first reports of issues within the company emerged back in the summer. In July, Sandsoft dissolved two internal studios and laid off two dozen employees during restructuring. Its CEO, David Fernandez Remesal, explained at the time that Sandsoft had decided to abandon game development and focus solely on publishing, which led to the layoffs.

Neither Sandsoft nor Ajlan & Bros Holding Group commented on the MobileGamer report.

Sandsoft was founded in 2019. Its portfolio includes games such as DC Heroes & Villains: Match 3, Business Dude, Iza’s Supermarket, Potions & Spells, and Pocket Necromancer.
