According to The Verge, this figure was named by the vice president of the VR direction Meta* Mark Rabkin during a presentation for employees.
Rabkin also reported that Meta* Quest 2 has become harder to engage and retain an audience. He did not announce the exact figures, but noted that people who bought a VR headset last Christmas did not use it too actively.
Meta* released Quest 2 in October 2020. In June last year, analysts from IDC reported that sales of VR headsets reached 15 million copies.
