This is the second round of layoffs at Kwalee in the past year. In April, the company underwent restructuring and reduced its workforce by 10%, parting ways with 40 employees. Notably, Kwalee claimed it planned to slightly increase its staff in the future — from 400 to 410-420 people.
Kwalee did not respond to MobileGamer’s request to comment on the recent layoffs.
According to the calculations by the Game Industry Layoffs portal, since the start of the year, gaming companies have laid off over 14,000 people. The most significant cuts were made by Microsoft (2,800 people), Unity (1,800 people), and Sony (1,339 people).
