In March 2024, it became known that the head of the upcoming Marathon shooter development, Chris Barrett, left Bungie after 25 years with the company. Bloomberg found that Barrett was fired due to inappropriate behavior.

According to Bloomberg's sources, at least eight female Bungie employees complained about the developer at the beginning of the year. They stated that Barrett flirted with them, sent numerous text messages that "blurred the lines between work and personal," suggested playing "Truth or Dare," and implied he could help them climb the career ladder.

In a comment to Bloomberg, Barrett said he always behaved respectfully towards colleagues and did not think his messages could cause discomfort. He apologized to those who felt uncomfortable communicating with him.

Sony, Bungie's parent company, did not comment on the situation with Barrett. They only noted that they take all complaints of inappropriate behavior very seriously.
