According to Wired, Activision is actively experimenting with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. As reported by the publication, the company has already started selling AI-generated “cosmetics” in games.
Yokai’s Wrath
According to Wired, AI was used for at least one cosmetic set in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III called Yokai’s Wrath, which went on sale in December 2023. It is not specified which item or items in the set were partially AI-generated. There are no indications in the game itself about the use of AI in creating the “cosmetics.”
It is reported that Activision approved the use of the ChatGPT chatbot and generative AI for working on game concept art and marketing materials in July of last year. At that time, management assured artists that such technologies would only be used at the concept stage and would definitely not be used to create game assets.
Activision did not comment on the Wired article.
