At the G-Star 2024 exhibition in South Korea, the founder and CEO of Koei Tecmo, Yoichi Erikawa, shared that all executive directors at his company also hold producer positions. He believes this is beneficial both for the games and for the top managers themselves.
According to Erikawa, game producers need to have as much influence over a project as film producers do. They should have control over the team, budget, timelines, and, as a result, the quality of the game. These capabilities are usually held by executive directors.
Previously, Koei Tecmo announced that it intends to focus more on the development of AAA games and regularly release major titles for PC and consoles. Currently, a significant portion of the company's gaming division revenue is generated by mobile. For the financial half-year from April to September 2024, mobile games earned 21.8 billion yen (141.5 million dollars), accounting for 58.6% of its revenue. To accomplish its plan, Koei Tecmo aims to double its staff in the long term—from 2,500 to 5,000 employees.
In Koei Tecmo's current pipeline are games such as Fairy Tail 2, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, and Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land.
