Activision announced that in the first three days of sales, which fell at the beginning of the weekend, the revenue of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 reached $800 million. This is the highest-grossing opening weekend in the history of the franchise.

The game broke the record of initial sales of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3*. In 2011, the game earned $775 million in the first five days of sales. For more than 10 years, it was the most successful start in the history of the series.

The company also did not fail to note that $800 million – more than in the first days of the premiere collected “Top Gun 2: Maverick” and “Doctor Strange: In the multiverse of Madness” combined.

For reference, this amount also broke the record of initial sales of Red Dead Redemption 2. The latter in October 2018 collected $725 million in the first three days, which then allowed Take-Two to be called “the largest launch in the history of entertainment.”

*Modern Warfare is a Call of Duty sub–series. It started in 2007 with the release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. In 2009, its direct sequel Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II was released, and in 2011 – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Then it was decided to restart the sub-series. And in 2019, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was released, an absolute new game, but with the same heroes. In 2020, remasters of the original dilogy were released, and recently Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, which is a continuation of Call of Duty from 2019.
