The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, believes that the country's authorities should restrict access for children under 16 to social media and online games. In his view, this is necessary to protect young Turks from inappropriate content.
According to the Turkish publication TRT Haber, Uraloğlu presented his proposal at the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Speaking before parliament, he stated that currently, digital platforms are rife with "disinformation, cyber piracy, incitement to hatred, copyright infringement, child abuse, and peer bullying." All of this, the politician noted, harms the youth.
An age restriction on social media and online games would help create a "safer future" for children, Uraloğlu emphasized.
This is not the first time Uraloğlu has advocated such an idea. For instance, last week in an interview with CNN Turk, he stated that as an alternative, Turkish authorities could prohibit children from playing online games between 11 PM and 6 AM.
