The mobile gaming market in Russia is stagnating in terms of downloads, reports "Vedomosti" citing data from the analytics platform data.ai. In the first half of 2024, game downloads from Google Play and the App Store in the country totaled 1.183 billion, 2.3% less than a year ago.

Puzzle and RPG games were the only genres whose downloads grew in Russia in the first half of the year. Puzzle game downloads increased by 6.6% to 254.92 million, while RPGs rose by 3% to 36.4 million.
Puzzle games also became the most downloaded genre. Alongside them, the top four genres by half-year downloads in Russia included simulators (224.32 million downloads, -15.4%), shooters (58.25 million downloads, -15.7%), and strategy games (44.65 million downloads, -9%).
According to data.ai estimates, half-year gaming revenue in the Russian App Store amounted to $86.7 million. This is a 15.3% increase compared to the first half of 2023. How much Russians spent on games in Google Play is unknown because, since 2022, Google has not shared such data.
The biggest revenue increases in the Russian App Store were seen in action games (+48.4% to $2.35 million), shooters (+45.4% to $17.2 million), strategy games (+29.8% to $20 million), and simulators (+27.5% to $10.5 million). Meanwhile, revenue from sports games halved to $1.36 million.
