In the first quarter of 2024, Android users from Russia encountered malware disguised as games twice as often as during the same period last year. These data were disclosed by "Kaspersky Lab" in an interview with the newspaper "Vedomosti".

The company did not specify how many gaming cyberattacks it recorded, but noted that it had blocked "tens of thousands" of such threats.

"Kaspersky Lab" added that thanks to Apple's policy, the situation on iOS is much better. The company encountered scam applications in the App Store that posed as games, but they are significantly fewer than those in Google Play and on Android overall.

Experts interviewed by "Vedomosti" believe that the increase in cyberattacks on Android is partly due to some games being unavailable to Russians in mobile stores. Users search for APK files online and fall victim to scammers.
