The first month of summer for the American gaming market has been revealed. As is tradition, analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana shared the statistics on social media.
Meccha Chameleon
- According to Circana's estimates, American gamers spent a total of $4.49 billion on video games, hardware, and accessories in June 2026. This is a 21% decrease year-on-year, despite spending in all other months of 2026 increasing.
- The analyst attributed the decline to a tough comparison with the previous year. He pointed out that the Nintendo Switch 2 was released in June 2025, which boosted sales back then, but the situation has since stabilized.
- The majority of spending went towards video games — $3.88 billion, which is 12% less than the previous year.
- The best-selling game in the US in June was EA Sports UFC 6, followed by indie hit Meccha Chameleon. Apart from these, only one other new entry made it to the top 10 — Star Fox (2026), a remake of Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo Switch 2.
- Hardware sales dropped by 62% to $383 million. Notably, Nintendo Switch 2 sales decreased by 79%, and PlayStation 5 sales fell by 19%, whereas Xbox Series sales more than doubled.
- Sales of gaming accessories reached $232 million, a 21% decrease.
