Analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana shared a monthly report on the state of the gaming market in the U.S. Despite a wealth of new releases, overall revenue continues to decline.

▫️In the second month of 2025, Americans spent $4.5 billion on video games, gaming hardware, and accessories. This is 6% lower compared to February 2024.

▫️The majority of consumer spending was on gaming content — $4 billion, down 4% year-over-year. Accessory sales amounted to $220 million (-8%).

▫️Hardware sales fell by 25% to $256 million. This marks the lowest February period since 2020, when the segment's revenue was $184 million for the month.

▫️The best-selling premium game of February was unsurprisingly Monster Hunter Wilds. The title's revenue in the first month more than doubled the results of Monster Hunter: Rise.

▫️Capcom's new release topped the charts across all platforms. Notably, over 50% of total revenue came from Steam.

▫️Following Wilds in the chart were three more new titles: Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Civilization VII, and PGA Tour 2K25. A total of six new releases made it into the top 10, including Avowed (7th place) and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii (8th place).

▫️Piscatella specifically noted that the revenue for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II in its first month exceeded the launch figures of the first installment by more than five times.

▫️In February, the PlayStation 5 once again recorded the highest sales in the U.S. among consoles both in unit terms and dollar terms. PS5 is currently outpacing PS4's sales in the country by 7%.

▫️The Xbox Series X|S took second place in both metrics (units sold and revenue). However, the Microsoft console lags behind the Xbox One by 19%.
