The financial report for NetEase for the third quarter of 2024 has been released. We have selected key gaming-related highlights.

World of Warcraft

  • NetEase announced that its net profit for July-September 2024 fell by 14% year-over-year, amounting to 6.7 billion yuan ($926 million).
  • NetEase's revenue also declined—by 3.9% to 26.2 billion yuan ($3.7 billion).
  • The revenue of NetEase's gaming segment dropped by 4.2% to 20.9 billion yuan ($3 billion).
  • 71% of gaming revenue was generated by mobile projects.
  • In the summer, after a one-and-a-half-year hiatus, NetEase resumed publishing Blizzard Entertainment games in China. According to the company, local gamers warmly welcomed the returning projects. The number of daily active users on Chinese servers for World of Warcraft alone increased by 50% compared to pre-closure figures. The daily audience for Hearthstone grew even more—by over 150%.
  • Mobile game Racing Master showed an excellent start. The game was released on August 20, 2024, and quickly topped the free-to-play charts on the App Store and Google Play in Japan.
  • Identity V and Naraka: Bladepoint remained among NetEase's most successful games. The mobile version of Naraka: Bladepoint achieved fourth place in the top-grossing games on iOS after its update in September.
