Although the headquarters of Larian Studios is based in Belgium, the company has branches in other countries. One of them is located in Ireland. Recently, Dublin's Larian Group Holdings published a financial report revealing the developers' income from the past year.
The report caught the attention of the Irish Independent newspaper. As reported by journalists, 2023 was significantly more profitable for Larian Studios than the previous year. By the end of the year, the developers generated a revenue of 427 million euros, whereas in 2022, they reported only 22.7 million euros in revenue.
Larian Studios' pre-tax profit in 2023 amounted to 249 million euros. Notably, in 2022, the studio operated at a loss, with losses totaling 214 thousand euros.
The revenue growth for Larian Studios was driven by Baldur's Gate 3, which was released on August 3, 2023. It's worth mentioning that a portion of the game's revenue goes to Hasbro, the owner of the rights to Dungeons & Dragons. Previously, Hasbro reported earning about 90 million dollars from Baldur's Gate 3 in 2023, and plans to earn 35 million dollars in 2024.
The Irish Independent highlighted that the number of copies of Baldur's Gate 3 sold has surpassed 15 million. It is not specified in the article whether this information is taken from the financial report and at what point it is current. Larian Studios has not publicly disclosed the circulation, but in February 2024, the studio's publishing director, Michael Douse, mentioned that more than 10 million people have played Baldur's Gate 3.
