The game's servers will cease operation on March 12.
Highguard
Wildlight Entertainment announced the imminent closure of Highguard on social media. The studio admitted that although more than 2 million players tried the shooter since its launch, it failed to establish a sustainable user base—apparently, many who played quickly abandoned Highguard. As a result, the assembled audience was insufficient to continue supporting the title.
To recap, Highguard was released on January 26 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. The game received numerous negative reviews, with criticism directed at both its subpar technical condition and its contentious announcement during The Game Awards 2025 ceremony. Currently, its rating on Steam stands at a "mixed" 45% based on 39.7 thousand reviews.
Interestingly, according to media reports, Highguard was partially developed with Tencent's funding. The Chinese giant reportedly supported the game's early development and could have allocated funds for further improvements post-launch, but the initial performance did not satisfy the holding.
What will happen to Wildlight Entertainment itself remains unknown. Previously, the studio experienced significant layoffs, leaving just about two dozen employees.
