In March, many gaming companies left Russia and disabled payments for local gamers in their projects. Scammers decided to take advantage of this. The Group-IB company found 246 sites where it is allegedly possible to buy in—game currency or cards to replenish the wallet in the PlayStation Store – with their help, attackers steal bank card data.
According to Group-IB, many sites specialize in mobile games that are popular among children. For example, on Brawl Stars. Young players are invited to enter the site, stylized as an official one, and enter personal data.
Also, scammers often try to make money on fake cards for the PlayStation Store. They convince gamers that there are only expensive cards on sale in the amount of 2.5 thousand to 6 thousand rubles. Then they send buyers to phishing platforms, where they successfully collect the necessary information.
