The analytical company Circana has released a report on the American gaming market for May. Below are the main highlights.
Ghost of Tsushima
- In May, U.S. residents spent a total of $3.97 billion on video games, gaming hardware, and gaming accessories. Compared to May 2023, their spending decreased by 6%.
- Video game sales amounted to $3.62 billion (-3%), hardware sales were $202 million (-40%), and accessories sales were $148 million (-8%).
- The PlayStation 5 led console sales both in dollar value and units sold. The PlayStation Portal was the best-selling accessory in dollar terms for May.
- The top 5 best-selling premium games of the month included Ghost of Tsushima, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Helldivers 2, and MLB: The Show 24. Analysts noted that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, released on May 21, only reached the 37th spot on the bestseller list.

- Fortnite secured the top spot for monthly active users on both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. In terms of monthly active users on Steam, Helldivers 2 continued to dominate.
