Over the past year, China’s NetEase has been actively increasing its presence abroad. She bought Quantic Dream and opened four studios outside of China. However, the company recently announced that at least until 2025, its foreign divisions will not release a single game.
This was stated by NetEase CFO Charles Yang Zhaoxuan during the presentation of the annual report. He added that in the next two or three years, NetEase does not expect “pleasant surprises” from foreign studios in monetary terms.
It should be noted that in May last year, the founder of NetEase, William Ding Lei, stated that his company intends to increase the share of foreign revenue from games from 10% to 40-50%. However, he did not specify the timing.
In 2022, the NetEase gaming direction earned $10.8 billion. This is 9% more than a year ago.
