Game developers should prioritize creativity over financial goals, according to Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the former head developer of The Witcher 3, and now responsible for the action RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker. He shared this opinion in an interview with Radio Times Gaming.

During the conversation, Tomaszkiewicz was asked what revenue and sales The Blood of Dawnwalker needs to achieve success. He responded that he doesn't want to make any forecasts and generally disapproves of the approach where studios pre-commit to achieving certain metrics.
“If during development you think about sales, if you try to tailor the game for them, it’s doomed to fail from the start,” explained the game director of The Blood of Dawnwalker.
Tomaszkiewicz acknowledged that creativity alone is not enough to live on and that money is indeed needed to create a potential sequel to The Blood of Dawnwalker. Nonetheless, he does not prioritize them—what’s far more important to him is realizing the ambitions of the Rebel Wolves studio and gaining audience recognition. Moreover, Tomaszkiewicz is convinced that if you make a good game, it will sell well.
The Blood of Dawnwalker will be released on September 3, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. Currently, the game has over 2 million wishlists, so a disastrous launch is unlikely.
