Last week, the National Commission for Information and Freedom of France (CNIL) imposed a fine of €3 million on Voodoo. The agency concluded that the mobile publisher violated the French data protection law.

Important: The CNIL investigation only concerned the situation on iOS.

CHIL stated that Voodoo retains access to the IDFV advertising identifier (not to be confused with IDFA), even when gamers refuse to share personal data with the company. Although Apple does not prohibit this, French law is more categorical — applications cannot collect data for advertising using IDFV without the user’s consent.

CHIL obliged Voodoo to obtain the necessary permission from users. He has three months to do this. If the publisher does not have time, he will have to pay the agency 20 thousand euros for each day of delay.
