David Gaider, who was responsible for the scripts of the Dragon Age series of games, does not believe that neural networks can create high-quality dialogues for games. In his opinion, developers will waste a lot of effort trying to use AI technologies.

According to Geider, BioWare also experimented with AI. Each time the studio believed that it would get something worthwhile, but the generated replicas were always dull and soulless.

“In my opinion, it’s not about the replicas themselves. The fact is that procedural generation creates something similar in form to a quest. There are key points in it, but the end result is no better than a typical MMO quest in the style of “bring me 20 beetle heads”. Is this really what the players want?” says Geider.

Nevertheless, many developers believe in the capabilities of AI. Geider is sure that they will fail, but they will still try to find an AI application. This idea will seem especially tempting to the authors of MMO games.
