Epic Games does not guarantee that the sellers of assets in the Unreal Engine Marketplace have rights to the distributed content. The company announced this in response to a request from the developers of Bleak Faith: Forsaken, who were recently accused of borrowing animations from Elden Ring.
The company said that sellers, before uploading content to its platform, must sign an agreement and confirm that they own all the necessary rights. However, Epic Games cannot independently verify whether they really have such rights, so it does not give any guarantees to buyers.
The authors of Bleak Faith: Forsaken got into a scandal last week immediately after the release of the game. The network noticed that the animation in the action copies the animations from the Elden Ring. The developers from Archangel Studios explained that they bought these animations from the Unreal Engine Marketplace, and said they would contact Epic Games. Now the developers are going to replace all the assets purchased on the site.
