Yesterday, Epic Games announced the launch of a unified marketplace called Fab. It has combined the Unreal Engine Marketplace, Sketchfab, and Quixel.
Fab is designed to be a universal store for buying and selling digital assets. Currently, it offers content for three engines:
- Unreal Engine;
- Unreal Engine for Fortnite (Epic Games distinguishes it as a separate entity);
- Unity.
According to GamesIndustry, the company plans to add support for assets for Godot, as well as for game UGC platforms Roblox and Minecraft.
In the future, Fab will also include content from the ArtStation Marketplace. Its integration into the new unified marketplace is planned for 2025.
Prior to the launch of the service, Epic allowed creators to transfer their products from the Unreal Engine Marketplace and Sketchfab to Fab.
Despite the opportunity provided to manage the transfer of content ahead of time, the launch of Fab faced criticism from creators.
They expressed concern over the transparency of the process and the safety of their work created over many years. Creators feared that their materials might be removed from previous platforms or transferred without their knowledge.
In a comment to GamesIndustry, an Epic Games representative responded to these concerns, stating: “We are definitely not deleting anyone’s content—that’s not within our rights. Preserving the creators' work is our priority.”
They also assured that the platforms would remain accessible: content can still be uploaded and viewed. However, trading on these platforms is no longer possible.
