A new version of the Unreal Engine — Unreal Engine 5.3 — has become available for download. It has improved the rendering, animation and modeling systems.

In particular, Epic Games has optimized two important engine functions — Nanite and Lumen. Recall that the first one virtualizes any geometry without restrictions on detail, and the second one is responsible for global illumination.

Experimental technologies have also appeared in the engine. One of them is a rendering system for volumetric effects like smoke and fire. Also, support for orthographic rendering has been included in Unreal Engine 5.3.

In addition, Epic Games has added a new skeletal animation editor to the engine, improved the fabric simulation and updated the virtual camera.

You can view the full list of changes on the Unreal Engine website.
