The Future of Life Institute has published an open letter calling for suspending work on neural networks that are smarter than GPT-4 for at least six months. Experts believe that such technologies can pose a serious danger to humanity.
The Future of Life Institute writes that in recent months, many companies have “got involved in an uncontrolled race” to create increasingly powerful neural networks. And while no one can fully understand and reliably control AI.
Experts advise using a six-month break to develop global security protocols. They also propose discussing control over neural networks with governments of different countries and creating agencies that will regulate the sphere.
At the time of publication of the news, the open letter was signed by 1123 people. Among them are the head of SpaceX and Twitter, Elon Musk, Apple co—founder Steve Wozniak, and the head of Stability AI, Emad Mostaque.
