Electronic Arts has shared new details about the restructuring of its gaming divisions. The company announced that it has begun preparations to revive the Fight Night series, is developing an open-world American football game, and has revised its development plans for The Sims and skate.

This was stated in a communication published on October 21, signed by EA's president of the gaming division Cam Weber and COO David Tinson.

In particular, the publisher detailed the following plans:

  • Fight Night — EA has commenced preliminary production on a new installment of the boxing simulator series, the last of which was released in 2011. A team specializing in combat sports simulators will work on this project.
  • Project Gridiron — The company is developing an open-world American football game with a focus on social interaction. This is one of two new EA Sports projects, with further details promised by the publisher in the coming months.
  • The Sims — EA has decided to concentrate its efforts on Project Evergreen. As a result, the company has paused the development of another project — Project Lotus.
  • skate. — The publisher intends to downsize the game's team and focus its work on specific tasks. EA expects these changes to help improve player retention and make the project's business more sustainable.

Executives at Electronic Arts explained that they are reviewing the company's structure and investment priorities amid increasing competition in the gaming industry.

Now, EA plans to concentrate resources on key franchises, explore new markets and business models, and reduce the number of large games in simultaneous development.

Previously, App2Top.ru reported that as part of the same restructuring, Electronic Arts decided to shut down BioWare and cancel the new Mass Effect. Additionally, the publisher announced plans for joint development of a new shooter by Respawn Entertainment and DICE.
