The company Electronic Arts (EA) has made the source codes of several older games from the Command & Conquer strategy series publicly available. It published them on GitHub.
Command & Conquer Remastered Collection
The source codes of the games have been released:
- Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn;
- Command & Conquer: Red Alert;
- Command & Conquer: Generals and the Zero Hour expansion;
- Command & Conquer: Renegade.
EA released the source codes under the GPLv3 license, which allows for free creation and distribution of mods.
Additionally, the company shared a set of tools for creating mods for these games and parts of the series subtitled Tiberian Twilight, Tiberium Wars, and Red Alert 3.
According to the company, the restoration of the games' source codes was assisted by Luke Feenan, a veteran of the Command & Conquer community and modder, better known by the nickname CCHyper. He also previously participated in the creation of the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection.
It's worth noting that EA is not releasing the source codes of this series for the first time. In 2020, the company released part of the code for the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection.
