Roskomnadzor has blocked access to Discord in Russia. In a comment to TASS, the press service of the agency stated that it was blocked due to violations of the country's legislation.
According to the statement from Roskomnadzor, Discord did not fulfill the requirements necessary "to prevent the use of the messenger for terrorist and extremist purposes, recruitment of citizens for their commission, and drug sales." Additionally, illegal information was posted on Discord.
Roskomnadzor added that they had previously demanded Discord remove 947 materials containing information prohibited in Russia. At least some of them remain on Discord. Moreover, in 2023, Discord was fined 6 million rubles for not removing illegal materials, but the fine has not been paid. At the end of September 2024, Discord was fined again — this time for 3.5 million rubles.
Discord representatives have not yet commented on the blocking in Russia.
