This conclusion was reached by Rune Skovbo Johansen, who analyzed the statistics of the GMTK Game Jam game development marathon.

According to Johansen, in 2022, the GameMaker engine was used by 31% fewer teams than last year. If in 2021 GameMaker was chosen by 520 developers (8.9% of all participants), then in 2022 — only 379 (6.1% of all participants).

Many teams started using Godot and Unreal Engine. Their number increased by 19% and 14%, respectively (and the share — by 2.5 and 0.6 percentage points).
