Rockstar Games has once again faced a data leak. Several of its design documents, created in the early 2000s, have appeared in the public domain. These documents pertain to plans for developing games in the GTA series.
GTA III
One of the documents is dedicated to a canceled version of GTA Online, which was intended to be based on GTA III. According to this document, Rockstar Games planned to develop a large-scale game with character customization, skill and reputation systems, multiple factions like the police, mafia, and bikers, as well as varied missions. Ultimately, the company abandoned the project, and the modern GTA Online only launched in 2013 as a multiplayer addition for GTA V.
Other documents relate to GTA: San Andreas, GTA: Advance, and GTA: Vice City Stories.
Notably, the documents were published online by a user named FrankieLiberty, who aimed to harm another hacker—john doe. This individual allegedly spent years profiting from internal information stolen from Rockstar Games. As FrankieLiberty claimed, now john doe will not be able to resell at least these files.
Rockstar Games has not commented on the leak.
