For Chinese gaming companies, a “black streak” may end. On November 16, the state newspaper The People’s Daily published an article calling for a closer look at the positive aspects of video games.

The newspaper pointed out that the European Union has recently recognized the cultural and economic importance of the gaming industry. Developers are also supported in Japan, South Korea, Australia and a number of other countries. According to The People’s Daily, video games have long ceased to be just entertainment. They are also important for the development of the technology sector and can promote China’s culture abroad.

However, at the end of the article, the journalists reminded that video games can be addictive and should be treated with caution.

After the article was published, shares of Tencent, IGG, CMGE Technology and some other gaming companies from China rose by 2-10%.
