In 2021, Casey Hudson, former general manager of BioWare and producer of the first installments of Mass Effect, announced the opening of his own studio, Humanoid Origin. It has come to light that three years later, it has ceased to exist.
The reason for the studio's closure was an "unexpected lack of funding" amid issues within the gaming industry.
Humanoid Origin was working on an original science fiction AAA game for multiple platforms, focusing on narrative and interesting characters. A full announcement of the project never happened. The studio only managed to show the public a few concept arts.
In a farewell letter, Humanoid Origin stated that its team "made incredible progress" and proved that "amazing work can be done while maintaining a culture of fun and creativity."
Currently, the studio is assisting employees in finding new jobs. According to its LinkedIn account, at the time of closure, Humanoid Origin employed over 70 people.
