He announced its launch just a week after Sony closed his previous studio, Dark Outlaw Games.
Jason Blundell made the announcement on March 31 during a Twitch stream with his former colleague at Dark Outlaw Games, JC Farmer. The developers admitted they received a lot of support from gamers saddened by the closure of Dark Outlaw Games over the past few days. This inspired them not to give up and to try starting anew.
The new studio has been named Magic Fractal. Essentially, that is all that is known about it so far. Blundell and Farmer did not disclose what games they plan to develop.
As a reminder, Blundell is a veteran of the gaming industry, having worked more than a decade at Treyarch on various installments of the Call of Duty series. He was responsible for creating the zombie mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops III.
In 2021, it was revealed that Blundell, along with other former Treyarch members, founded Deviation Games, but he left the following year, and two years later, the studio closed. In 2024, he launched Dark Outlaw Games, which also did not last long. Whether Magic Fractal will prove successful remains to be seen.
